“The Institution offers a qualification in Beauty and Hairdressing to specifically cover the scarce skill gap in our economy”. This qualification will enable the students to go into the work environment with entrepreneurial skills. This industry has seen a substantial growth all around the globe to employ qualified beauticians.
As the beauty industry trends, regardless of demographic or destination, the demand for skilled Beauticians grows. The research done by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) in South Africa, in collaboration with the Services Sector Education and Training (Services SETA) hosted a stakeholder workshop on understanding skills supply and demand in the beauty industry on the 18th August 2017. “The study confirms that the beauty industry plays an important role in the economy, both in the formal as well as the informal sectors of the economy.
It reveals that the beauty industry employs approximately 1 180 224 people (in both the formal and informal sectors), and its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is approximately 0.62%. Also revealed that there are approximately 6 337 employers in the formal beauty industry with approximately 34 000 – 40 000 employers in the informal beauty industry.
